Baptism Dress using Burda 02/2017 #124

My youngest daughter was baptized on Saturday and I thought it would be fun to sew her a baptism dress and let her pick the fabric herself.

I took her to JoAnn with the pattern specs in hand and we got to looking! She picked everything opposite of what I would have picked, but I think that's what makes it special and unique to her. I had a beautiful white lace fabric in mind, and she decided on a shiny white satin fabric with a touch of sparkles. I had a blush pink fabric in mind for the sash, and she picked a blue sparkly organza fabric for the sash.

Everything came together beautifully, and the pattern from Burda was perfect. I love the button details down the back, the peter pan collar, and a nice full skirt perfect for twirling around in! For the loop trim in the back, I found a trim at JoAnn that was perfect. I couldn't find the exact one on their website, but this one is similar. I just pushed back every other loop and sewed it down when I attached the trim to the back of the dress. It worked it to hold 11 buttons, which was perfect!

We already had a petticoat from her halloween costume, so I didn't make the petticoat included with the pattern.

This sewing pattern would be good for an intermediate seamstress. It has a few details that could be tricky for a beginner, such as the collar, and back button placket. It was a fun project with all the little details included though!

Her baptism day was beautiful with her older brother baptizing her and her dad confirming her. She is thrilled to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! And she looked radiant in her dress made especially for her!
